Customer: Centro Carlo Scarpa Architect : Umberto Riva
On 2nd June 2006, the Carlo Scarpa Centre was founded in the convent of Santa Margherita in Treviso.
A place dedicated to research, with a reference room containing the original materials, computers for on-line connection and a library about Scarpa’s work.
The exhibiting area has been designed to offer, even to the non-expert public, the excitement of directly viewing the original drawings exhibited in rotation and organised in theme-based exhibitions. The skilful furnishing, designed by Umberto Riva and manufactured by the mastery of Contin Ebanista, incorporates mobile structures suitable for the various activities, from the reception to the viewing of original and digitised sheets, from cataloguing to public exhibition of the drawings in the former Sala del Capitolo (Chapter House).
The use of fibreglass panels with opaline corrugated profile is one of the essential expressive elements of the project.
In the centre of the hall, a large T-shaped table, made of fire-retardant panels and coated with fire-retardant plastic material, is made available for the Scarpa’s projects to be directly studied. The drawing display, where the original sheets are shown in rotation, has been completed with long free-standing showcases. The structure is made of iron, the chipboard panels are hand-painted.
