After more than twenty years, Bolzano’s Teatro Cristallo has renewed its spaces with an intervention that combines safety, comfort, and environmental responsibility. A complete restyling featuring 436 new Deko armchairs, designed and custom-made to meet the functional needs of a contemporary theater hall.

The project originated from the need to update the seating to current safety standards, turning this requirement into an opportunity to enhance both aesthetics and performance. The new armchairs stand out for their elegant and understated design, which harmonizes with the architecture of the hall, and for a high level of comfort designed to accompany the audience throughout the entire theatrical experience.

Great attention was given to sustainability. The seating is made from carefully selected, low-impact materials: polyester fabrics derived from PET bottles recovered from the sea, FSC-certified wood, solvent-free paints, and CertiPUR-certified foams. This design choice reflects a conscious and responsible approach, in line with the cultural values of the theater.

The new setup also highlights a highly symbolic element: the deep blue of the armchairs emphasizes row M, the seat deliberately left empty to represent women victims of violence. A silent yet powerful gesture that reinforces Teatro Cristallo’s role as a space for culture, memory, and social commitment.
